If you've ever walked through the woods at night and thought "I wish this was scarier'', Alexandra has the answer.

The Walk of Scare will be frightening any willing person aged 8 to 18 from 6pm tonight.

The Alexandra and Districts Youth Trust-run event will be held in an area northwest of the town known as The Pines.

The Alexandra Lions Club will set up a cafe there and the Grim Reaper will lead anyone game enough to the start of a maze.

Participants will then follow lights through the trees, bracing themselves along the way.

Youth worker Jess Laurent said a group of young people got together and decided on the scariest things they could think of.

"The Grim Reaper will also lead them out of the maze, if they make it out alive.''

There would be eight different horror themes in the maze, but the group did not want to give too much away, she said.

A junior youth council was created in Alexandra this year as part of the trust and was given the task of organising events.

Vanya Rouse-Henry (14), of Alexandra, said she and her friends would be hiding in the maze to scare people in various ways.

The event will be staggered, with years 5-6 children starting at 6pm, years 7-8 at 7pm and years 9-13 at 8pm. Entry costs $2.

Participants are advised to bring a torch and wear covered shoes and warm clothes. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
