Breakthrough manhunt as car seized

A car believed to be Sydney shooting suspect Matthew Russell's has been seized by police but the fugitive remains on the run.

A 30-year-old man and 20-year-old woman have been charged with concealing a serious indictable offence after police raided a Green Valley home in Sydney's west just before 9.30pm yesterday.

There they seized the late-model silver Commodore with no number plates, believed to be Russell's.

The 28-year-old is wanted over Friday night's shooting of a 46-year-old man in the adjacent suburb of Heckenberg.

The victim was talking on a mobile phone while sitting in a parked car when he was hit.

Police believe he was an innocent bystander caught up in a dispute between Russell and two brothers over one of the brothers' girlfriends.

The victim's grieving father Jabbar Al Mhanawi told News Corp he heard the gunshots from his porch and found his dying son Qusay in the car with bullet holes in his head and chest.

"I was holding my son with both hands and the blood was coming out of his head like tap water," Mr Mhanawi said.

"The lady from next door got some towels to put on his head.

"I checked his pulse soon after but he was dead."

Russell is known to police and investigators have urged anyone who sees him to contact them immediately.

However, the public have been encouraged not to directly approach Russell, who is described as having a solid build, short brown hair and a "Ned Kelly-styled beard".

The man who was arrested was refused bail and is due to appear in Liverpool Local Court on Monday.

The woman is expected to appear in the same court on Thursday after she was granted conditional bail.
