Attack on tourists still being investigated

Police are still investigating a violent assault which left two tourists in hospital at the weekend.

A group of six to eight men allegedly assaulted the two male tourists - one from France and the other from the UK - outside the Vagabond Backpacker in Christchurch around 2.30am on Saturday.

The two tourists were discharged from Christchurch Hospital on Sunday and both have left the city, Detective Sergeant Nicola Reeves said.

She said the tourists were lucky not to be more seriously injured.
