Mild weather expected for weekend

Kiwis are in for a mild weekend, according to weather forecasters.

WeatherWatch.co.nz head weather analyst Philip Duncan said there would be little to no frosts and above to above average temperatures.

Auckland would be fairly dry with the possibility of just a few brief showers both days.

Much of the North Island would be the same, with mild temperatures for August and a few showers.

"There's a general front moving up the country but it's completely falling apart as it does so," Mr Duncan said.

"On Saturday, the West Coast of the South Island will get heavy showers but it will be pretty much dry for everyone else."

On Sunday, the front would move into the North Island, which would make it a bit cloudy and deliver a few showers, but it would still be warm, he said.

Meanwhile, a burst of rain would move up the South Island on Sunday night.

The mild weather would continue into next week, but the second week of August would be cold, he said.
