Twenty-nine Chinese pupils have had the opportunity to experience the Dunedin way of life by attending schools in the city over the past week.

The Beijing contingent of primary and secondary-aged pupils was split between Kaikorai Valley College, Otago Boys' High School, Tahuna Intermediate and George St Normal School and were hosted by local families.

The visit was organised by Dunedin company Integaty, which specialises in helping people to study abroad, together with Enterprise Dunedin.

The pupils enjoyed new learning experiences in Dunedin schools that they would otherwise not get, Integaty manager Scott Hou said.

''Before they [the pupils] came here, they had no knowledge of Dunedin,'' Mr Hou said.

''I do my best to promote [it].

''Dunedin is a very, very special city.''

Parents and tutors on the trip gave excellent feedback on the teachers and quality of education in Dunedin, Mr Hou said.

''[They are] talking about sister schools in the future.''

The group visited Cadbury, Larnach Castle, the Dunedin Botanic Garden and Moeraki, as well as other South Island destinations during the 15-day excursion.

They will head to Queenstown on Thursday.
