World No 5 David Ferrer has confirmed he will return to Auckland to defend his Heineken Open title in January.

Since winning in Auckland in January, the Spaniard has captured five tour titles, most recently last week in Valencia, and reached the semifinals of the US and French Opens, and quarterfinals at Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

Tennis Auckland will officially unveil Ferrer as the Heineken Open's top seed later this morning, but the Spaniard confirmed to Radio Sport at the Paris Masters he'll be back for a shot at a fourth title.

"I will go there, I like a lot that tournament," he said. "I won three times and I enjoy it. I like to play there.

"Very difficult to win again [in] Auckland. I will try to do my best."

"I like the city, I like the people and ... I am very happy to come back again."

Another top 20 ranked player may also be unveiled with 10th ranked Juan Monaco, number 13 Nicolas Almagro and 19th ranked Philipp Kohlschreiber still available.
